Back home, workers at Daybreak Foods have taken to the streets of Pretoria, calling on the Department of Employment and Labour to fast-track their TERS application, which would allow them to get paid while the company remains under business rescue.

Daybreak Farms made headlines in April when it emerged that hundreds of thousands of chickens went days without feed, resulting in mass cannibalisation. The NSPCA was called in, and approximately 200,000 birds had to be culled.

Daybreak Foods was then placed under business rescue in May of this year. The move was backed by the PIC, which appointed a new board to bring stability.

We are now joined in studio by the business rescue practitioner, Tebogo Mashoto. Thank you for being with us, Mr Mashoto.

When these shocking pictures emerged in May, the company reportedly had about 3,000 workers. What is the situation right now with workers and their contracts?
